What is Walk by Faith? …a 5k race with a big party
AFF will host its 3rd Annual Walk by Faith 5K Race / Walk at Alexander Deussen Park on November 6, 2011. Last year we had over 650 participants and 100 volunteers. This year we are anticipating 800-1000 people in attendance! It is sure to be another great race and fun-filled day complete with yummy food, awesome kid’s zone, music, & more!
Who does this event benefit? …kids with cancer
All proceeds go to Addi’s Faith Foundation, a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood cancer. Our purpose is to raise funds for research in pediatric brain tumors, as well as provide financial assistance to families struggling to care for a child with cancer. Addi’s Faith Foundation has recently pledged $201,352 to MD Anderson for a very important and extremely special research project. Currently, there are live tumor cells growing in the lab that once belonged to Addison Faith, a beautiful little girl who died from an ATRT brain tumor and who is the inspiration behind AFF. For three years, these aggressive tumor cells have been growing and nothing has been able to “kill” them…until now. Initial laboratory data suggests that a new class of agents called HMT inhibitors has stopped the viability of these awful tumor cells. This three year research project will provide essential knowledge about the treatment of brain tumors and who knows, it might even lead to a cure! Now that’s BIG!!!
